i got a bit of a problem and cant seem to find a solution to it - so im hoping someone on here may have had the same problem

Ive got a Netgear DG834GT router which i have 2 pcs connected to via ethernet and 2 media centres via 108mb netgear wireless cards. when i connect the media centres to the router with out any security encyption i get a 108Mb connection but when i turn on the WPA encyption i can only connect at 54Mbs. Ive tried the netgear site and loads of different options in the router but still can get it to increase from 54 to 108. Its proving a bit of a problem as im trying to send data to and from the media centres but its really slow.

the router is also set with an access list and also with SSID hidden

anybody get any ideas, as i dont really want to turn off the encyrption?

cheers in advance :)

You really won't ever see a true 108mbps connection - I've had a similar setup in the past with complete line of sight and you never see the maximum bandwidth.
First thing to check is that you are still using the default Channel - I believe that is Channel 6?
This is the ONLY channel you can use and have the ability to use the 108mbps feature.

There are also a couple of options in the router firmware which could limit things to 54mbps - specifically forcing G only over Netgear's own "SuperG" settings.
I'll try and dig those out - however they would have been settings you would have changed so you would know about them :)

netgear

cheers for the reply stoofa

i havent changed anything - the problem is only when the wpa encyption is activated. when i dont use encryption i get 108mb connection but when it is active i only get 54mbs

i will check the things that you mentions when i get home
