Hi all, i just built a new rig and using my old Pioneer DVR-109 16X DVD +/-R/RW 4x +/-DL IDE OEM drive.

Seems to be linked with my hard drive installation.

I installed 1 hard drive to put vista 64 bit on. Once vista was installed my dvd drive was visible and i could install drivers through it. Soon after i then installed a second hard drive and now my dvd drive has vanished

Anyone got any idea on how to retrieve my drive? i cant continue installing all my drivers without it.

I tried taking it out and refitting it but no luck, it also does not show up in device manager.

Hope this makes sense, any help appreciated.

Appologies that i already posted it in another forum section but no one barely reads it and not had any replies and its quite important to get my drivers all installed.

are the new hard drive and dvd both ide ?

any chance they are both set to master or slave, does the dvd show up in bios.

Sorry guys, the hard drives are both SATA and the dvd drive is IDE. Yes it does show up in BIOS but cant check much more than that at the mo as im at work

is there an equivalent on vista of the hardware profiles you'd find in the system section of the control pannel on XP? I havent used it so i've no idea, but it might be worth checking.

Also, does it show up again if you remove the new hard drive?

PK!

It does not show up in Windows for some reason, only the bios. For example if i go into system information and click on cd-rom info it is blank.

I took out the hdd and booted up but its still not there

check device mananger and disk management and make sure they are not sharing the same letter

Sorry not sure what you mean, i cant see the dvd-drive in windows so cant see what letter it is? my hard drives are C: and D: though.

Would my dvd-drive of been D: before i plugged in the second hard drive which is now D: itself?

Sorry not very good at this type of stuff

Using vista, go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, then click on the disk management tab on the left hand side, check if the drive shows there, and if it is sharing a drive letter

Only my hard drives are showing there :(

hmm, try control panel, system, device manager on the left, then click the + at the side of dvd/cdrom drives, does it show in there?

Already checked, there isnt even a dvd/cdrom drive tab to see if theres a dvd/cd rom drive there!

Maybe a silly question but... does it have power? does it open if you press the button?

*edit* sorry ignore that, forgot it shows in bios, im out of ideas :(

Thanks anyway, cant quite figure it out, has power, opens/closes, shows in bios just no sign of it in windows

Ok, im back :) do you have raid set up on your system? if you don't try disabling the raid controller in BIOS, its been said that a few can mess up the dvd drive detection in vista

Theres only one IDE on the GA-P35C-DS3R :(

It did originally work though which is the strange thing, installed vista and managed to install a couple drivers, as soon as the 2nd hard drive was added it buggered it up
