120 GB Sandisk SSD (OS on this drive)
Zantec LED CPU Cooler
5 led case fans
500W Power

(No GPU)

Set up Pc, no problem, booted first time no problem, installed new Windows 7 Home Premium all no problem.

Build was for a friend, gave it to him, he saw that 100 windows updates needed to take place so left it running and went out.

came home to find the PC off, turn it on, all seems to power up but no signal to monitor via DVI or HDMI

again everything turns on, you hear the HDD make a noise but nothing on screen.

he tried later and it turned on but windows needed to be repaired, this wouldnt repair.

I got it back today, it turned on fine, put windows disc in and formatted SSD and reinstalled windows.

Everything was fine until windows updates which made the PC shut down when finished.

Then I experienced the problem, PC turns on, all kicks in, fans etc but nothing on screen and no lights on my USB devices (mouse keyboard). I have since tried all possible RAM stick combinations the PC did turn on a couple of times and load up windows but once I shut down and turned on again, same problem....

it maybe works 1 out of 10 times, cant find a pattern to it.

I am typing this from the PC at the moment, chances are when I shut it down it wont turn on correctly again??

Any advice is welcome, I hope I have provided enough information.

Alex

Sure enough didn't turn back on.... Forgot to mention when it is working you can restart with no problem... It's only when you shut down it doesn't want to play ball.

Thanks

Thanks all.

The BIOS was set to ACHI before installing windows and I had both the SSD and HDD plugged in when I installed windows.

The Case and PSU is a Coolermaster Elite 430 and the PSU actually came with it as a package, the PSU is 500W, not sure of additional spec of PSU will need to check when I get home.

Interesting about the CPU pins not being aligned properly, I thought the fit seemed snug enough not to have to worry about that??

I will attempt the BIOS updates as suggested and check the CPU is sat correctly.

It just seems strange that sometimes it works and most of the time it doesnt :(

It was all going so well ha!

Any other experiences liek this anyone has had and suggestions welcome, thanks all

Come to think of it, when I first installed windows on the SSD windows was telling me it couldnt as the drive was uefi (think thats right).

I looked online for a solution and found that I should press esc when asked if I want to boot from disc, sure enough this worked.

Also when in the bios, when choosing the boot order in 3D mode, the SSD has "uefi" written above it in red....

not sure if this could contribute to the problem?

ok, havent looked at since my original message, just turned it on and ut came on fine first time, as soon as it loaded up I shut it down again and sure enough it wouldnt turn back on. I removed the hard drive (one at a time then both) and it wouldnt work, still power goes in but nothing going to monitor, mouse, keyboard...

after about 10 attempts it turned on....I will go down the route of updating BIOS then check cpu unless anyone else has any suggestions...

could it be PSU? arrrghghghghggh

another observation, when the Pc is running fine and sat idle on the windows desktop, the cpu fan and led it constant, when the PC isnt behaving the led on the fan dims and the fan slows down for a couple of seconds, then speeds up and lightens up for a couple of seconds, and so on and so on...

??

Ok, have tried the following

HDD idea
Updated to latest beta bios
checked CPU was in correctly (took it out and put it back in).

Still same problem.

Any ideas would really be appreciated, the fact that the PC doesnt even get to the bios screen, it doesnt send a signal from the mobo to any device? could it be a hardware thing?

I am stuck appreciate your help, Alex

It was the PSU, lesson learnt! thanks everyone for taking the time to help, I wont be buying cheap again.

stuck a Corsair 430 builder in and no problems...phew!
