Hi there I'm having problems with my new build system. I've had a look on google and other forums but I can't seem the find the solution anywhere.

Basically what is happening is when I boot up into Windows everything loads up except my network connections i.e can't see the icons next to the time in the taskbar. For 2 or 3 minutes nothing happens, suddenly then I'll hear the hard drive loading and the icons pop up and everything seems to be fine. During this time I can't go into My computer or to network connections either, when I do I get that little torch to indicate it is searching. If I go into IE I can see my homepage google but if I enter another address in it won't go to that site.

I have tried a lot of things, I thought at first it was the Anti virus and firewall and it isn't that. I've tried turning off 'File and printer sharing'. I've tried Bootvis, I've tried going into device manager and in primary and secondary ide channel turning it from auto to none. I've tried disabling my LAN ports. I thought maybe some of the windows updates are causing problems but I've tried taking them all off and still no luck. I've tried installing the ethernet drivers first then the other drivers from my mobo installation disk. I've tried updating all my drivers, I've tried turning off BITS in services. I just can't figure out what is going on, something I think i have found a problem with certain software, so I do a clean install and the problem happens without that software!

My system specs are:

Intel QX6700
EVGA 680i motherboard
EVGA 8800GTX graphics card
X-Fi Elite Pro
850W PSU
Plextor PX-760A
150GB Raptor

I've tried so many things but I just can't seem to find any solution to this, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Try reformatting then installing usb, chipset and lan drivers. Best installing USB drivers first so you dont have to mess about with PS2 ports :).

To me it sounds like a NIC driver probably. What OS you trying to put on the machine? Is it 64bit?

Hi there no I'm using a normal Windows XP Pro 32bit.

Another thing I notice is that when I start up next to the clock only the nvidia icon comes up, if for example I have added new hardware then the add new hardware wizzard will only appear once the network icons have come up.

Tried that as well, not having any problems with the PS2 ports.

As that motherboard has nvidia NICs, have you installed that awful nvidia firewall crap? I find that often causes no end of strange problems...

Might be worth looking at a chipset driver upgrade and a BIOS upgrade as your hardware is pretty new and there could be a recent update. Which nvidia icon is the last thing to pop up in your task bar? I would also disable the control panel for that, perhaps it is slowing the machine down for some reason.

A few random thoughts for you there...

It is the graphics card icon that is coming up, I've tried disabling all the things that come up at start up and that doesn't help.

I also haven't installed the nvidia firewall stuff but I am starting to think it might be bios related. Thing is even if I disable the NICs in the bios I still get this problem so I'm not sure what to think! I'd rather not upgrade it just yet because these EVGA people have a bit of a flaw in their bios. The volts to the memory is only 1.9v and with my cellshock PC-8000 I need 2.2v. So this means I need to take one stick of ram out, start up and quickly change the settings otherwise windows won't even post and it will freeze. It was a right pain last time because it kept freezing in the bios menu meaning I couldn't even change the settings! Left it off over night and was resigned to ordering a cheapo set of ddr2 ram so I could change the settings but luckily when I tried in the morning I was able to quickly change the settings.

I'd rather not go through that all again!

type msconfig in run, and then disable all the crap from loading up. As it will mostley be icons you can choose from. And all of those can use lots of ram ect :).

Tried that as well mate and it makes no difference. :(

I've also updated my bios and that hasn't made a difference either, I'm running out of ideas now :(

Well I solved the problem in the end. Had to go into services and disable "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" That seemed to work for me and I haven't had the problem again (touch wood)

Sorry to bump up this old thread but thought I'd post my solution just in case someone has a problem similar to this in the future :)
