Hi guys,

just built my bro new comp,

Cpu - 6550
Ram - 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC5300
Mobo - Abit IP35
Graphics - 8800gts
PSU - Corsair 520w

Now I have re checked all the connection just in case i forgot to plug one in and everything is connected up properly. When i turn the computer on it everything powers up but no post beep, then the power cuts out and then it comes on again and powers up fine and posts ok, there is a red light on beside the ram and green light indicating the mobo is on. I just tried to install windows there and it blue screened on me. I'm thinking either Ram or Motherboard???

Does anyone know if this is a known problem with abit IP35, is there any settings in bios i have to change?? or do you think its my RAM??

Thanks
Murzo

disconnect the hard drives and any fans and pci cards, check all your power leads are plugged in and turn it on. see if you get the beep first time.

this will rule out any card problems or extra (fans/controller) problems.

still no beep then with only 1 stick of ram put it in the first slot and turn the machine on.... no beep then try the second slot and so on.

after all of this if it does not boot up first time then look in the bios when it has booted up properly after it shuts down like you explained and check the voltages.

nothing wrong there then you probally have a memory or psu error.

Thanks guys, I found why it was bsoding, the Voltage for the ram was defaulting to 1.8 in the bios where as the ballistix need 2.2, changed this and it seems to be working fine.

Does the packaging on the ram say what it should be running at? I only ask because I'm a build novice and I'm preparing to jump in with both feet shortly.

Yep, also says on the ram sticks itself, and also check the websites you are buying from they will also tell you what voltage the ram requires.
