Problem with new build!

Ok I've had my new build up and running for a couple of days now and a problem has started to crop up. First noticed when playing back video/ playing games, but now it's doing it when I'm listening to music. My computer suddenly freezes visually and makes this really horrible loud pitched buzzing noise. I don't really have a clue of what it could be? maybe the graphics card I'm thinking?

If anyone knows anything about this type of problem then it would be a great help if you could drop me some advice, cheers!

My new build is this:

and 2 IDE Drives which I have yet to format
 
Yeah just re downloaded the latest drivers from the ATI website, and was in the middle of playing F.E.A.R. 2 and it made the same noise, only this time blue screen errored and restarted. On the ASUS SmartDoctor it says that the card is running at 60degree's with no work load. Does this mean that the card maybe over heating?

nah thats about right its dependent on ur case tbh but hmm well guess its the good old
list now

try indivdual sticks of ram
first then we'll work our way around the rest of the pc:D
 
Thanks siumatfung, I'll go down the ram route and see if any of it is the source of the problem.

Damn and here's me thinking that I was lucky from building my computer and everything booting up perfectly with no problems at all.....then this happens :mad: Long day ahead, I guess I'll take the dog for a walk before I tackle this later.
 
Ok I have tested each stick of ram and the problem seems to keep on happening. Also have run memtest and everything seems ok there. I'm not really sure what the problem is? Anyone got any ideas? Cheers
 
Where is the buzzing coming from - your speakers or inside the case?

I think my next port of call would be to try a different PSU if you can, especially if the buzzing is coming from there.
 
Yeah the buzzing could be an overloaded PSU, but I would have imagined that 700W was enough.
Would be worth checking the load on it.

700W would be plenty unless the PSU is faulty. I recently had a PSU that failed on me but still managed to provide enough juice to get me to the bios - took a bit of time to nail the problem as a result.
 
Cool, thanks for the advice guys. I'm not really sure of where the noise comes from because its so loud. When it happens the video freezes and you can't hear any sound.

I've got quite an old Audigy2 sound card plugged into the pci slot. When installing, it had trouble detecting the hardware/drivers, but we eventually got it going from downloading the drivers off the net. My mobo has got onboard sound so maybe I should remove the soundcard and use the onboard sound?

I've got my other psu handy, FSP Group AX500-A 500W ATX12V Power Supply, so I may be able to connect it up and see whether it works with it. Would 500w be enough power for my system though?

So I reckon my next plan of action would be to try the soundcard option first, then if nothing works on that front, the psu. Does this sound like a good idea?

Was you using the Audigy2 when the problems occured? Did you disable the onboard sound only I'm thinking this could have been a possible conflict. On the other hand I would suggest the onboard sound is probably equal to if not better than your separate card being more modern so no harm in trying....
 
I have'nt disabled the onboard sound, never actually used it because the speaker connections would mean I would'nt be able to use my current sub. I'll try it out anyways.

Shame though, I'm going to have to wait a while until saturday cuz I'm on holiday for 4days. Cheers for the input
 
Ok I have removed my old sound card and have the onboard one up and running. The problem happened again recently though and I think its to do with the graphics card or the PSU.

For some reason whenever I try and get into my Catalyst Control Centre It the program hangs. It always hangs on the Basic Quality screen and I can't seem to gain access to the program without it loading up and going straight to this screen and hanging.

I'm not really sure how to gain access to the Catalyst Control Center, and whether this may be a problem with my graphics card or psu? Anyone got any Ideas?
 
had the same problem, turned out to be ATITool causing it ... rebuild and install the ATI drivers on their own, without CCC ... fixed for me

you got ATITool enabled/installed or any other gpu_overclocking utils on there?

Thanks guys, I managed to completely uninstall CCC and reinstalled the original CCC which came with my graphics card, and I can access everything properly now, Cheers!

My original problem is still persisting though which is really annoying. I've managed to exclude the ram and sound card as problems so now I think there maybe a problem either with the psu or graphics card. I think the source of the problem maybe the PSU as it seems to happen when I'm just playing music through itunes on a static desktop with no load on the graphics card. It happens in basically all applications, kind of stalls and makes a continuous buzz and sometimes goes to a blue screen error.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I can run any tests on my psu to see if its the problem/ fix it? without having to take it out and try it with a new psu?

Well tomorrow I'm going to try a full format and maybe go back to XP and see if things work. If not then I don't know what the problem is :(
