Problem with new GPU cooler.

I recently bought theAkasa AK-VC03-BLUV Vortexx NEO VGA Cooler on a HD 4870 1GB and since I am getting extremely high temps and artifacts appearing very quickly, to be honest the instructions were simple but I think it may have left out some important stuff. My question is, after I apply the thermal compound and reattach the fan how long do I leave the compound to dry? Since last night (maybe around 9 hours) it has dropped and I am not getting artifacts but the GPU is still very high, going up to 91c on idle  , should I leave it for a bit longer to dry? Ordered some arctic silver just incase to. Thanks for any help, still new to comp over clocking and heating to be honest.

Aha! Think I fixed it, removed the fan into the Odin Gigabyte PSU (Has dedicated SYS fan control) and switched to straight into the mobo and removed smart control, GPU temp is now idling at 34c with fan adjustment yet :D, 10 lower than stock, sorry for the quick panic hehe. Damn spent £20 on thermal suppplys XD

Glad you got it sorted.

It can be a worry when things don't work straight away, lol. :)

If you have only just ordered the stuff, phone them up and cancel the order.
Nah its alright, I sorta cemented that paste on anyway :p so I will probabloy reapply the new stuff better tomorrow, + the new coolant looks pretty good so it will come in handy :)

It would be worth keeping an eye on your VRM temps as well as the GPU as most after-market coolers seem to lack a bit in that side of things. Use GPU-Z to check them (they are the 3 VDDC temps at the bottom of the Sensors tab) Max rated to 127 degrees! I had to put some extra case cooling to get a side fan blowing onto the back of the card to help keep them chilled! :)
Around 60c right now, thanks for the tip! :D

Just wondering if I could ask another question, I was taking a good look at my GPU Z after I used the ATI tool to auto over clock the card, and under 95% load my GPU went to 65c which I think was great considering I got almost an extra 80Mhz out of the core, but the MEMIO read at 90c under load. Does that look a little high to you? The card is running fine over clocked but I dunno, 90c sound hot, but is it to hot?

Was playing Crysis after a quick graphics card boost (overclcocked by just a few Mhz), started to artifact, added a side cooler to my Antec 900.2 to try and cool the card = wouldnt work. Tryed lowering the clock back = wouldnt work. Ordered the XfX version on my mums card and its coming on Saturday. Sapphire is being returned to ****.com, second one I have had to return :O. Probably still gonna try the thermal paste tomorrow morning and see if it helps but daym, better safe than sorry, Tired of graphics cards tbh, but I mean, overheating even with a custom cooler (old cooler is even hotter, tryed testing it back to)? Something gotta be wrong there.

Was running it at 1680x1050, looked awesome to at a nice FPS, DX10 with Natural Mod, but the new card is coming tomorrow so nevermind :P
