Problem with new PC

Ok guys i have a problem with my new PC

Everytime i click shut down the screen goes black and switches off then the Mouce, Keyboard & Joystick turn off but the PC stays on? i end up having to hold to power button to switch it off.

And secondly i think its related, When i press the power button to switch on the computer starts up for 2 seconds then switchs itself off - i have to hold the power button for 4 seconds or so for the PC to start (any longer and it will turn off)

This is really annoying and i think it could be doing damage to my computer?

My spec is:

E6600 C2D @2.4Ghz
EVGA NForce 680i Mobo
850w Galaxy PSU
2 Gig Ballistx Mem
X 2 8800GTX in SLi
500 GB HDD
74GB Raptor HDD
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 edition

The system in only 3 days old!

Could be a problem with the hard disk not stopping properly. I'd try a different one and format the one you have now to be sure that's the problem.

have you updated bios on mobo yet? also make sure the 24pin connector + any other are connected to the board. try it with xp aswell, vista could possibly be a factor too.
