basically my m8 was having problems with his PC

ASUS striker 680i with q6600 and 2x 1GB OCZ PC6400 gold edition XTC sticks.

when playing certain games the PC would randomly crash/reboot, we narrowed it down to the ram so i decided to run the sticks in my PC which has not had any problems before hand. but with these sticks in my PC it also started to randomly reboot, not just when playing games but even when simply browsing and a couple of times i've left the pc doing nothing only to come back and find the system has rebooted.

my PC

MSI P35 neo2 fr with an E6750

i have ran memtest for several runs on these sticks and all is fine no errors at all

what do u guys think is happening and why the random reboots especially if their passing memtest?

thx

Hi John,

This is exactly the same problem i am having and i have essentially the same setup.

Been speaking to Overclockers and its apparantly a compatibility issue between Asus and OCZ - Even if it passes memtest (mine passes memtest too).

As for it also causing a problem on your PC with an MSI motherboard, it could be the same problem - compatibility.

I had this problem with Asus and Crucial but now have OCZ and havent got the problem.

Other possibilities...

Power
Compatability, although as you stated you have tried 2 different boards, so one would put it down to memory.
Voltage
Timings

I ran memtest for 6 passes with no errors at all then still had the problem with crucual, changed the ram and wollah, dont dont have the problem.

I found that even sometimes memtest didn't seem to find errors, if you search through forums there are certain tests you should run as appose to all selected when started, maybe you should run though the night.

thx for reply's

everything else is fine timings, power etc etc he's been running ma crucial sticks and all's been fine :)

not really sure why they've been causing ma board problems usually my board aint so picky but his new geil ram has arrived today hopefully all will be fine.
