recently the last 6 months ago I have had a power supply go, it didnt blow just refused to start. so I fitted a cheiftek 350Wt, which has been working fine, now just recently my partner has complained the system has been locking up
The spec is
A78nx,
9800 Pro, (No overclock), 2500 Barton (Now no overclock),
Chieftek 350 (from the dragon case),
1 x 80GB HDD, (had 2, 1 is disconnected I thought it may be power issue)
1GB of Cosair 3200 DDR (running at 2700) (2.7V at stock)
All bois setting on auto- with the latest bios
CPU temp is runing around 40-45 Board temp is below 28 always.
Ram is running at 2.7 which shouldnt be a problem.
I noticed the 12V rail was runing at 12.60 in the bios, not sure if this is too high and could cause any problems.
The system would just freeze loose power to all USB devices and need hard resetting this could happen anytime, more likely to happen when playing games, so I tried 3d mark 2001, - locked right away.
One thing I have noticed is that the power supply was making an strange high pitched sound, bearly noticeable but this has seemed to be fairly recent which could account for the problem. Im thinking of changing the PSU.
For now I have everything on stock and now runing continous loops of 3d mark to try to get it to lock again, after disconnecting a hard drive it seems to be running better.
I dont really want to change the PSU if possible, it should be able to cope on 350 Watts, without the other HDD, I am happy enough about this if it works as the girlfriend only plays warcraft on it and uses it for internet brouseing.
Any other suggestions, at all I would be greatful, or maybe I should buy her a new machine for chrismas
Many thanks
David
