I have a pair of Logitech speakers which I got when I had just started uni - Logitech x140

**Do Not Hotlink images, also from a competitor **

These speakers have become faulty:
- Left speaker does not emit any sound
- Audio cable from PC jack needs to be folded in a certain way or the right speaker does not emit any sound either!

Is this fixable or should I just dump it and get a pair of new speakers?
Thinking about it, these have been with me for 17 years!!! Where has the time gone, eh?

If I do get new speakers, which simialr looking Logitech speakers would you recommend ?

The cable from the pc jack is definitely faulty if one channel comes and goes as it is moved - it will be a break in the copper wire that can be made to touch with the cable bent a certain way. And if the wire for one channel is damaged, it seems likely to be the cause of the other channel not working too.
From a quick search it looks like it's a captive cable and not as easy as buying and plugging in a new cable.
I'd say it's likely an easy fix though if you have the tools to open the main speaker and can wield a soldering iron.
if the damaged part of the cable is in the middle, then you could cut that bit out and reconnect the left, right and ground wires (making sure they don't touch each other) - this could confirm that its only the cable that's faulty and you've not got much to lose at this point!
Good luck :)

I am inclined to put on my Macgyver hat to try it out after reading what you said.

A speaker set of similar design (albeit with a slight increase in size) could be a set of Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II.

These are available at £85 at present on Creative's UK site.

I have owned these in the past and was impressed with them in terms of performance at that price point.

I have a max budget of £30.

Fellas, I have come up with this shortlist :

Creative Inspire T10
£33

Creative Stage Air
£40

Creative Pebble V2
£22

Creative MF0480 2.1 PC Speaker Set - Pebble
£30

Which is the best amongst these?

I don't think it's a case of which is best, more of a which is best for you.
Would you be looking to change the x140s if they hadn't become faulty?
After 17 years or so I guess not.

If it was me it would a choice between the T10 or Pebble V2.

The Stage Air looks interesting but would you ever use it as a portable bluetooth speaker? or have room for it under your monitor?
MF0480 2.1 I don't really have the space for the sub.

I'm still using some logitech S150. Just a simple USB plug and play.

Thank you.

The CREATIVE Stage air arrived today. It's set to max volume on the speakers itself at the factory. My Windows volume slider was also set to 100. I played some music and nearly lost my hearing! lol

Pretty impressed with the speakers so far. It is louder than my typing on my keyboard and the speakers have some oomph as I can feel the desk shake if I place my hand on it. It also sits nicely under my Freesync LG IPS LED monitor.
