Hi

Can anyone help with this strange problem, i'll try and explain it best I can...

I turned on my computer and nothing came up on the screen, i noticed that before the standard "beep" sound i heard a few strange "clicks" that where coming from the internal pc speaker.

At first i thought the graphics card had a problem but i replaced it with another one and i got the strange problem.

Its strange as i haven't seemed to have done anything like install hardware/software it was just totally random when i turned it on.

can anyone help!?

if you need more info let me know.

Thanks.

remove every single cable from the system (carefully making note of where it came from) hd, floppy, all the usb devices incl KB/Mouse,exp cards everything, if you have several memory sticks remove all but 1 and if the system does not work try a different one (assuming your system supports 1 stick at a time) - obviously you cannot do anythign with the kb and mouse unplugged but if nothing happens after this lot its either the cpu / MB or PSU.. before anyone says I know its a gillion to one chance of it being the kb/mouse but I've seen it twice in 15 years..

Nothing comes up on the screen, it stays black so i cant get into the BIOS.

I also tried resetting the CMOS by removing the battery and putting it back in, but it didnt work.

Yes i did try unplugging everything, hard disks memory etc... and i got the same problem. Leaves me to think that its a motherboard problem

NO i havent tried that, i'll give it a go though thanks.

As it stands i unplugged every from the motherboard, so when I get home i'll try and reconnect everything back and see if that works.

Any more advice/ideas are welcome :)

does anyone know anything about the 'clicking' sound that i seem to get when i first boot up?

The clicking is coming from the internal speaker.

has anyone heard of this before?

Hi

I tried everything above including reseating the CPU, i unplugged everything from the m/board and then reconnected it all back and still no joy.

Does this sound like a m/board problem?

Can anyone help?

thanks

Could be anything....:(
Well yeah i know :)

I've now had a go at changing everything,
harddisk
ram
graphics card

only thing left is the CPU or motherboard.

Since i'll have to rebuy what either one could anyone give any advice what they think the problem may be, CPU or motherboard (save me some money on buying the wrong part)

cheers

Id go for the motherboard first.... if the cpu looks ok no burn marks on it or anything?

or you could just buy a new motherboard and cpu if your current ones dated oh and memory if its a different type lol

Any beeps at all ?
Do you hear any HDD access ?

How is the CPU and GPU fan spinning, normal speed or very slow ?
Does it reboots itself if you leave it for lets say a minute or two ?
