Hi All,
I have an 80 gig PS3 with a faulty blue ray drive and as I am a total newb I need to know how I go about replacing it as no warranty left. First off do I need a particular drive or would I be able to use any drive from another dead PS3 any help you can offer would be awesome and you will receive my eternal gratitude.
Many Thanks, Wayne..;)

You cant use one from the old 60gb im pretty sure, look online and most places that sell them will give you info on which to use. You would probably need to look for the model no on the back of the ps3 for more info.

You will need to replace the laser, Not the whole drive. pretty sure the 80gb used the KES-410ACA but id look into that a little more.

They can be picked up for about £30-£40, Lots of youtube guides on changing them if you look, Will take about 1 hr your first time.

Thanks all for the advice, I will check out trying to repair it first hopefully.
Regards & Thanks, Wayne.

Ok took the bull by the horns and opened the drive to find that the bit that takes in the disk was not working so I took off the bottom part ( black bit with rollers on) under that there was a loose bit that fell out and the end is broke (pictures)

So can any tell me the name of the bit I need or maybe some one may have a bit I can purchase please, any help truly appreciated thank you all..
Regards, Wayne..
