Problem with Renault Scenic

My wife's just come home and complained that the car was "spluttering" and she struggled to get to 40mph. I went out and listened to the car and to me it either sounds like the exhaust is blowing or it's misfiring.

Any ideas what it's likely to be?

Just been researching online. Think it's the coils (pencil type). Ordered 4 of eBay for £40

It's a 1.4 Fidji (not sure on the engine model). All the things I've read online point to the coils. Still cheaper than spending money just getting a garage to diagnose the fault.

Replaced the 4 coils today, the last one looked burnt out and covered in soot. Didin't have any plugs to hand so will get some and replace those.

Running well again though.

LOL, doesn't bother me too much as the wife uses it for taking kids to school and I use a 306 XSi for getting to/from work

Know what you mean though, had it hooked up to the skin on a bowl of custard and it kept stalling as I pulled away

Funny thing is, when we got it 3 years ago, I went for the 1.4 because I thought it would be cheaper to run for fuel and road tax. Only to find out the road tax is the same as my 2.0 '98 306 XSi :eek:
