Hello people. I've just installed Stalker and it's various updates, I also installed the complete mod so that I could benefit from the graphical makeover and the tidying up of the English text.

Now, I launched the game up after all the updates and have mistakenly set the resolution to one that my LCD TV doesn't support, therefore just showing a black screen and forcing me to Alt+F4 back to the desktop to get a picture. All I need to do is get this game to launch in 1024X768 but I cannot find any out of game option to do it.

Does anybody know a way to launch the game in 1024 X 768 mode? I'm using an Nvidia 9800GT and can't find an option anywhere in the drivers to force games to use a certain resolution, desktop yes, games no.

Anyway, help would be very much appreciated, cheers! :)

I don't know this for certain, but as far as I can tell I think settings are saved in a file called user.ltx

For Vista and probably 7, this file is in
C:\Users\Public\Documents\STALKER-SHOC

Copy that file to your Documents as backup, and then delete it from the folder above.

Try running Stalker again. Hopefully it will go to default settings that work for you, and recreate the user.ltx file too.

I'll give that a try in about two ticks and then post back here explaining whether it worked or not. :)

Thanks for the quick reply.

EDIT: That worked a treat. Have a cookie! :D

Would have been easier just to open that file with notepad, scrolled to the bottom where the resolution is, and changed it to the one you wanted by inputting your own, then saving it :p

Ooooh smart ass!

I don't know though, what do you say is easier?

Left click > Delete > Launch

OR

Right click > Open With > Notepad > Scroll > Delete Text > Type Text > File > Save.

Nerrrr!! :p hehe

But you technically have to put all your custom settings back in, making it longer ;)

No, I had to put them in anyway, what happened was I launched the game and the first setting I changed was the resolution, mistakenly changing it to a setting my HDTV didn't support. :(

So I had to change all the other settings anyway! :o :p
