Hi,

I have:

Asus Maximus Extreme Intel X38 (Socket 775)

Western Digital Raptor 36GB

My new build went okay but when I got onto picking my HDD for windows I had a few problems. I kept getting a messege saying Windows couldnt use the raptor beacuse of insufficient space. The raptor was plugged into sata port 1 I shut down the pc and changed it to sata port 3 and it installed fine,

now everytime the machine booted up it would come up no boot device found press f1 to search, Hit f1 it would find the drive

a few re boots later it stopped doing this and couldnt find the drive at all, The weid thing is in the bios it could find the WDR and had it as the defult boot option. i changed the sata plug to sata port 1 and it worked, i no longer had to hit f1 every boot up

about 15 mins ago about 20 re boots later its happend again, to get it working i have had to plug it into sata port 2.

Any idea what the **** is going on?

Have you altered anything relating to IDE/Sata channels in the bios?

There are options to disable 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 of the channels. Have you reset the cmos or even done a bios update?

Another thing ( not sure if this could be it though ) is that you may have to install the sata drivers into the bios. Someone else will verify this hopefully though.
