problem with sims 2 + vista

some reason when i goto launch sims 2 , my pc crashes..

when i try and get task manager up after running the sims 2 exe, it wont come up?

then i cant run any programs and have to reboot

its pretty weird

anyone had the same problem and found a fix?

I have a laptop with Vista on it (Dell 6400 with a x1300 gfx card, which aint great) and it runs fine.
