problem with sony laptop...dns not connecting ?

hi all.

my friend has a sony vaio fw11e laptop and has had it connected via wireless with virgin media.

they sent him a new hub the other week and it wont go onto the web,it says it is connected in the network settings but none of the browsers will open.

ive done a test on his wireless and it cam back with a error for the dns ?

he has got 2 ps3's-2 xbox's -ipad and 3 iphones connected via the wireless but his laptop wont.

do you think if i type this into the start function it will sort it out ?
ipconfig /flushdns at a command prompt.

any ideas people ?

run a command prompt

type "ping 4.2.2.2" tell me what comes back

1) get him to go Start>RUN>CMD and then Type "Ping 4.2.2.2". If he gets replies then do an "IPCONFIG /flushdns" and then "IPCONFIG /registerdns".

2) If he doesnt get replies then type "netsh int ip reset" and "netsh winsock reset" and then restart the computer.

All I can think of atm tbh. Ive been up for 27 hours and my brain is in safe-mode.

those sony laptops can be a pain sometimes.
