I just setup my old computer and i dont have sound via onboard.
Its realtek ac 97 audio on a gigabyte k8n xp sli and i have tried latest realtek drivers and latest drivers off gigabyte website.

Sound works via USB with my 5h but i need the onboard working.

I am using the green and pink jacks for headphones so mic and headphones which i select on the sound options but still nothing.

I am running windows xp sp2 and ran out of ideas

Edit - i have went into bios and selected (auto) / disable option for it

update, did windows test and it shows my input very clear with my mic and when on the second stage where it says read this text etc i can see it playing it back but i dont hear sound when it says i should. Doest this mean my jack is broke?

ye ac97 its displayed fine, it picks up mic volume and says its actually outputting sound but its actually not lol - i just left the mic plugged in and it still shows as outputting sound so doesnt help me anymore :(

Only other possibility is the jacks broken or something wierd with drivers thats not allowing me to hear sound :(

I cant see how my jacks can be broken because when i connect it to the pc it says found x-x-x is it speaker/headphone/line in or something ellse - so it recognises the port but no soundoutput and my speakers/headphones work as through the USB they are fine

Try only having your headset plugged in and pull out all your speakers. Unplug your speakers first. Then re plug in your headset to see if that makes a difference.

tried as im only using 1 device at a time. It recognises when i plug in the headset as it says new device flund etc configure jacks but then i cant hear any sound.

Anything else?

yep headphones work as do speakers and tried both :( and they show under control panel -> sound device playback all show as ac 97 audio thing
