HI GUYS

i cant game offline, i'm getting a message

`` offline mode unavailable, there is no steam login information stored on this computer..... you will not be able to use steam again until you connect to the network``.

this is crazy, i've just downloaded Deus ex off steam !! but it does say that i'm part of a home network, probably because i keep forgetting my password, this is a new rig, so i had to join Steam all over again, but it did say that there was more than one computer on my network.... maybe my login details were on my last rig only !

it's saying to me ``you are accessing steam from another computer on your network``.... ``please see your email and enter the code into the box before you can continue ``

this was when i tried to login right now, it's saying that i have multiple accounts and computers and the one you're using doesn't have the login details.

it's a total disaster

That's called Steam Guard. And it's a Godsend.

You just need to check the email account associated with Steam, and enter the code it sends you when you try to log in on your new computer. It then remembers that PC as one you've used (as long as you don't bounce back and forth too many times).

hi thanks

i keep doing this, it just wont work once i go offline and try to game.

i can get into my account fine, no problem at all, i just cant game offline.

yes it keeps sending me the same code, but it wont recognise this rig as my only computer.

It is very strange. I play mainly in offline mode, but on tuesday night I went online(after playing in offline during the day) and then the next day when I logged in(with no problem) I clicked on 'restart in offline mode' and that message came up saying "there is no steam login information stored on this computer".

I have unplugged router, reinstalled Steam client etc. Nothing has worked

i've tried disconnecting the router, turning off the pc etc and nothing works, it will not let me game offline, i've also turned off the silly security guard.

when i open Steam i dont need to login, it's pinned to start up when the rig is turned on, so i havent actually had to log in yet !!!!..... i've only logged in after i've logged out first..... i've logged in 3 times since this fault has started and it still doesn't let me game offline.

i cant change my details etc or i'll loose my games, plus it'll still recognise my existing email

the mistake is probably to forget my login details and i've had them changed 4 times already (over 6 years), my guess is Steam thinks i'm on a home network with 4 other computers.... i.e you get a new computer every time you change your details.

my login details are probably only on my last rig !

I don't know if in the OPs case this is a specific bug but regarding steam offline mode generally despite what some people will say you can NOT go into offline mode reliably in steam if you have any pending steam updates or product updates, also some games in your library if not isntalled/not fully installed can stop it going into offline mode reliably if they are in a certain state.

Make sure all updates/patches that are done through steam are fully applied, completely remove or finish the install of any games that aren't installed properly.

that's very interesting, i have 8 games uninstalled and i dont want them anymore either.... so i'll delete them tomorrow and start again.

i'm going home now so i'll post in again tomorrow to see how were getting on

good luck !

Steam works ok now, i wonder what else to download ? !!!!

i wonder if Future Soldier is fixed enough to play !!! i doubt it, but it might be worth downloading the main game and getting it patched in two weeks time, because Steam usually patches it instantly !

what do you think guys ?

i game offline only, i dont play MP at all, so i removed that Steamguard thing yesterday, i then logged out twice, logged in twice..... and finally went home.

i came back here today and got straight into DUES EX in offline mode, i tested it again and again... still ok, i then reinstalled VEGAS 2 from its original disc.

I have no other Steam games on my new pc, the other 8 i dont want anymore, so that wasn't the problem either

try logging in and out/ turning off your rig and removing the internet connection etc, you need to get Steam to know that you're gaming from one pc only.

win 7 firewall is trying to block me playing Vegas 2, because of this home network security thing, this isn't a Steam game, but it's slowing down the loading times

verifying the game cache is something i do ever since Steam last screwed me up..i also start gaming before i quit and go home/ offline.... i never go offline before starting a new game, just in case it isn't fully patched etc, always game for a minute first.

but the big problem is forgetting your login details, because then you create a home network with loads of different computers (without you realising) i have about 6 others !!!!!:eek:

for me Steam works fine now, but there's no way i'm reconnecting to steam until i'm ready to download the next two to three games. because the faults always seem to start again when you switch back into ``online mode``.... i often go offline for 6 months to a year and this really screws you up especially if you forget where you put your login details :D

i'm so pizzed off with Steam  that i might switch to buying discs only, after all, it takes hours on end just to download one game.....i'm on ZEN and it takes about 6 hours to download a game.

Steam is too big, too slow, too complicated, too screwed up, i cant even join the steam forum without it telling me that my latest login details belong to someone else here at home, i just get so tired trying to sort all of this out that i cant be bothered with all of it anymore, life is too short.
