I've just got this board

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-260-AS

with this memory

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-022-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=

I also have Vista 64 and a Q6600, 2 x 7800 GTX in Sli and a 1000 watt Coolermaster PSU

Machine posted first time, loaded windows on all ok, but once installed it would lock up at the loading page where it says "microsoft corp" with the green bar, machine would either give BSOD or simply reset - round and round in circles!

I took out one of the 2 gig sticks and hey presto all working ok.

I have flashed the bios to 0902 all to no avail.

The single stick works fine in any of the 4 slots on the board.

Have I made a bad choice of memory which I need to RMA or can anyone suggest some settings I can tinker with please?

If I do need to change the memory what would people suggest? Some overclocking may be applied!

Thanks in advance, I'm going to bed

So either stick by itself in there works fine? But not together. Have you a friends mobo you can try your ram in. If not send the memory back and choose something else.

Sounds very much like 1 of the sticks is bad.

Download this:

http://www.memtest.org/download/2.00/memtest86+-2.00.floppy.zip

or this, if you do not have a floppy drive

http://www.memtest.org/download/2.00/memtest86+-2.00.iso.zip

Follow the instructions in the readme file for either one. Once you have a bootable cd/floppy, boot the system from it, first with one memory stick installed, then with the other, if errors are shown with one or both, then it or they should be returned for a replacement.

One other thing to check is the voltage required to run the memory, do you have it set correctly in the BIOS?

Thanks for the replies.

I will get the chance to have a play tonight.

I will do the memtest thing and do a bit of swapping over and see what's what.

As for voltage settings etc on this board - everything is left at stock.

There are so many options on this board it's a little daunting! I got my old rig the way I wanted and it stayed like that - as such I've not messed about in a bios for a couple of years!

Has anyone seen (either on this site or others) a general guide for this board in terms of what works and what doesn't witth regard to the bios?

Thanks

D

In that case you may well need a little extra voltage. This board defaults to 1.87,

2.1v is what's recommended for that memory, it won't hurt it, give it a try.

All sorted!!!

4Gb up and running flawlessly!

After spending an hour or so this afternoon scouring the internet I found an update for Vista which does not come as part of windows update automatically, KB929777.

I downloaded it and re-inserted the second stick and voila!

No bios adjustments were needed

Thanks for the pointers guys
