problem with tv playing .avi file through usb

works fine on my lg plasma 1080. mate has the exact same model tv except smaller plasma - same number of hdmis, usb port etc but mine recognises the .avi file by asking if i want to view movies whereas on his tv that option doesn't even appear?

after searching around he has the pj350 and i the pk 350. by the looks of it you can backdate the firmware as it stopped putting vids through the usb in mid 2009.

can't find suitable firmware though and it would be dodgy to try it.
