So i just installed the stock Ryzen Wraith heatsink on the Msi tomahawk Max and the only way it fits is it makes the first dimm slot unusable. Couldnt put it on the other way because of the motherboards heatsink. Luckily i only need to use dimm 2 and 4. But how bad is that? If i want to put more ram in ill need a different cooler. Hope pic works...

I'm not sure about the cooler mentioned, but had similar problem when attempting to use the dark rock horizontal version. Well made, and efficient, but was forcing the first ram to a 5 or 10 degrees. Not something I would like to have. Returned and back to watercooling.

Just to add, seems to be easier on Intel, as the mounting holes are symmetrical. AM4, not. And not too many coolers would allow that, except inverting the airflow, back to front, instead of front to back.

I'm just really surprised this is the case to be honest. It's just the top half of the fan that's badged AMD. I haven't got it up and running yet I only just installed the cpu and cooler and ram in the board. But I'll be checking temps. Honestly I can't believe the design.

Having closest DIMM slot unusable isn't big problem.
In fact with two DIMMs those should go to second and fourth slot from CPU in huge majority of mobos.
In daisy chain routing DIMMs in closer slots would leave ends of lines "hanging in air", which degrades memory signaling because of reflections.

What cooler is it? Wraith Stealth?

The Wraith Stealth cooler's fan shroud can be removed without detriment to performance. There's a small screw that needs to be removed, which can only be accessed when the cooler is upside down, so you'd have to take the cooler off the CPU first. With the fan shroud removed, you should have better choices on how to position the cooler.

Thanks very much for the info. I think its a Wraith having looked on youtube. Its round and is stock with 3600. Im probably only ever going to use 16gig so it shouldnt be a problem as long as theres no heat transfer to the dimms. Its handy im using slot 2 and 4. Ill take a look at it.

Ah yes, the R5 3600 stock cooler is indeed the Wraith Stealth.
