Just installed vista on my machine which has an X-Fi platium card and the sound doesnt work probably. It works then goes all crackerly then goes off completely until i next restart. Ive tried every driver possible if older drivers which still dont work. I know this sound cards work because it was fine on the same machine with xp installed.

It does the same on both jack output and sp-dif output. has anyone come across this problem before.

thanks matt

make sure to update to the latest drivers.
my x-fi card wouldnt even install on vista at first...just kept getting bsod in middle of boot up.

daniel_k drivers ?????

Also I really have tried every update there is, yer im using the console also. It doesnt fill me with confindence that someone had the same problem and never fixed it. lol.

Il try another pci slot. Im limited on room due to my stupidly big graphics cards.

thanks matt

I've never had problems with my X-Fi with Vista, the only time was when i used a crappy nvidia motherboard and i had the exact same problems you are having now.

Make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date.

I always install the OS without the soundcard in, prevents useless MS drivers being intalled. Had no problems with X-Fi and Vista since.

First time for everything, but my PC no longer has a Creative soundcard in it as of 2 weeks ago as the Xi-Fi never worked properly with Vista and I only had stereo output with the Audigy. Now using on-board sound temporarily but I've had a creative soundcard of some form or other since my 486DX2 days .. time for a change.

Unfortunately this is a bug in the driver, especially if you're running it off digital sound.

It'll eventually be fixed, sorry :(

Try disabling any USB audio devices you may have, including web cams and see if it fixes it.

Try going in to system info and check if there are apparent IRQ conflicts on the PCI slots, disable and uninstall drivers from other audio devices (ie on board audio).

Ive tried everyone's suggestions and still its not any better. The sound does work for a little while but then suddenly the sound will become crackley and turns off.

If i reload the program playing the music it sometime will come back on. Yet the mic input works fine. Ive had to use on board audio for the time begining but i did try to resolve this with that disabled.

How often do you think creative are likely to update there drivers.

TBH, just pull out the x-fi. So much more trouble than it is worth. Mine caused so many BSODs it corrupted my windows install and I ended up formating and re-installing in the middle of writing my thesis
