Im sure ive seen this problem on here before but damn if i can find the post on search lol, my problem:

Put in the X2 to replace a 3200+, windows recognised it fine as dual core in task manager etc all fine, but this windows install was slow so i was planning to fresh install on a Raptor im trying, after a days messing around with that, nothing but problems with SATA and XP on this board lol :( so now ive got XP installed basic copy not even SP1, install sp1/2 etc all updated, check speedfan and cpuz and task manager performance bit and they all only show 1 Core? any ideas? in device manager under processors there both there, anyone know what i have to do? or why it has done this lol? anything to do with just installing bog standard xp? i know it had problems with large hard drisks but Dual core probs?

Please Help lol

Go to ' Device Manager ' and make sure it says ' ACPI Multiprocessor PC ' under ' Computer '

Not at my pc atm but i know it definatelly dosent say multifprocessor PC, it does say sumit about ACPI though, i did try to uninstall this then restart pc and see if that made any difference but no :/ this must be an XP driver or something somewhere as it i put the old HD back in its dual core on XP lol :/

Don't try and uninstall the driver, select :

'Update Driver'

'Install from a list or specific location'

'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install'

You should now get 3-4 choices, you want to select ' ACPI Multiprocessor Pc '

Kool will try this in half our, hope it works :)

No! :(

only got 2 damn choices what the hell!

Standard PC

or

Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC

Are you using the latest BIOS revision for your motherboard?

A8N32-SLI was released pretty early, probably before X2 was released and thus early BIOS probably won't recognise X2 correctly.

yea got the latest bios, but as i said in my OP my other XP install works and sees both cores fine, ive just done a fresh XP install and it aint recognised both cores

Is the fresh install fully updated with SP2, hotfixes, etc ? If it isn't, that might be why it doesn't have the proper driver.

Only thing to suggest is to 'update driver' again but let it search Windows Update, instead of selecting 'no, not this time'

Yea fully updated to SP2, although the xp disk is only xp pro standard without even SP1? did the original xp support 2 cores? but then again why hasnt it updated :/ and ive done the update from windows site aswell :( ive got a feeling im going to have to fresh install on my old 3200+ then put in the X2, which is a pain with watercooling lol

Hey again, think ive got it, found a site that tells you to press F5 when when it asks for disk drivers etc, then you force it to be ACPI Multiprocessor PC and it continues with install and all is ok now, well apart from Speedfan is only showing 1 core temp but not too botheres as CPUZ and XP showes 2 cores now, also i used Nlite and splipstreamed SP2 and used that so not sure if that fixed it either or if it was just the F5 jobby but either way i hope its fixed now :d ty for all the help guys

SpeedFan only shows 1 core temp here also. Use CentralBrain Identifier, A64Info_beta or CoreTemp 0.94 to see the temps of both cores.

dono why users still use None sp2 disks download one or buy one (sp1 lower is an virus hazzard as well as some simple things do not work)

if you can see two cpus in task man or in device manager all is good

Nice overclock Vcore little high 1.63v not sure if want to run it at that for an long time, thats if its high i norm ran my cpu at 1.48v, does it even shorten the life of the cpu haveing it at that vcore setting 1.63v or as long as its been cooled well should be ok?

getting me 5600+ X2 {2.8ghz@ most likey get it to 3.1Ghz} to replace my sold 3800+ X2 {[email protected]} when i pick it up today

Nice clock! ;)

But as said vcore is a bit high but if you have good cpu cooling then it's fine.

Also you maybe able to run x4 HTT multi to bring the HT link upto 1060Mhz. Increase the HTT voltage slightly if need to.
