problem with xfx 5870 xxx ?

and just tried the hotfix to see if any different.

after reading a post about the Intel Matrix Controller - I uninstalled that..... booted back up - ran DCS black shark as before and has been running ok since....

(even in the background while typing this.....)

weird.

if it happens again Ill try and underclock the card.
 
underclocked to 850.... ran mecha demo.... runs to end starts again...

put back to stock / overclock 875 - rand demo.... runs to the end !

aaaaarrrggghhhhhh!
hate these random crashes.

memory on the card ?
heat ?
 
just trying at stock speeds..... I guess if everything works ok .... RMA card time as it wont run at the XXX speeds ?
 
ok just ran the ladybug demo (at stock 850 1200)

and for the first time ever its ran (thats with CPU at stock or 4ghz)

so seems like these XXX cards may not be just that ?
 
well checking around other places there loads of random crashes etc with this card.... and no problems with some.... seems theres some duff cards and I got one of them.... will see what XFX have to say.

It even crashing in windows desktop now doing nothing.... my first ATI card for years - not a good start.
 
We'll google might be your friend! .... Google white screen / crashing.... It will come up 5850s as we'll and it don't seem to be just XFX... I think its a batch of bad cards hurried out. Ill update here though. XFX support on the case now.

There was talk of manually setting fans at 50% but this is loud and don't work for me.
 
If you could email me via trust I'd appreciate the other suppliers name ;)

As I only ordered the XFX cos it was in stock.... Seems to make sense now. Everybody knew ro leave this one alone ;)

No I'm sure there is a load of these cards that work fine but you tend to only hear from the people with problems.

Hopefully ill get a replacement card that works and doesn't need to have fan set to motorbike noise to work..... My first xfx and ati.... Hmmm whens the new nvidias coming out ;)
 
nope - XFX have asked for different temps of my system etc.... I sent that to them... same day they advised RMA time.

i tried 850 1200

and still no joy.... thing is though might have just ordered the stock version if it wont run.... anyways its going back.... lets see how long it takes... have only ever dealt with BFG and that was a mobo.
