Problem with XFX ATI HD4890, weird fan noise (I think)?

I recently (last Wednesday) got a new rig with spangly new hardware and the XFX ATI HD4890. However, there is some problem with this card (or at least I think so, i'm a complete n00b when it comes to computers).

It seems fine when im doing basic stuff (internet etc.) but anything graphically intensive, such as games or even scrolling down the page, initiates this whirring almost buzzing noise. This is different from the usual whoooosh you get from the card with increasing fan speeds.

Do any of you guys have any idea about this, or what i should do?

Thanks in advance :D

Yeah I get this too, have never really found out what it is (everyone has different theories), but I generally ignore it and turn up the volume a few notches - that drowns the sound ;)

its natural to do it can't rember what casues it ethoir

it can be very loud and annoying in some cases, I have never had that yet, althrough I did get a slight winne from one of my GPUs, or powersupply, hasen't done it recnetly

i bought the same card at the weekend and yes i also have the same noise when under heavy load, although not when i'm scrolling down a page like you said.

From what i remember it's something to do with when the card is drawing lot of power you get a "whine" noise from the electrical s, and it's nothing to worry about.

I'll be interested to see what resolution you get to,

I've got the same card, but can't say I've really noticed a 'buzzing' or 'whirring' noise.

Maybe its being masked by the fan noise though (which is pretty loud even at 40%). :D

I only get it from time to time when I'm scrolling, but I will get it when minimising and viewing other windows in Windows 7 RC.

I'm pretty sure I can hear the sound even when the fan is at 80-90% (any faster and I cant hear myself think :P) so it could be another component :S
