problem with XP

Hi there,
I'm having a problem with my PC, whereby periodically keystrokes no longer result in the appropriate response. most letters fail to type, but some activate dropdown menus, and shortcuts. Also, when this wierd mode activates, clicking on links downloads the webpage and saves it to my desktop instead of activating the link. when i press "Alt-A", everything returns to normal for a random period of time. i've tried running "malwarebytes", but nothing is detected.

any suggestions? this is doing my head in. :mad:

yup, the same problem occurs. and nothing's resting on the ctrl key...

Is there anything unusual in the startup tab under msconfig?

Have you tried booting without services running or in safe mode?

Stuck ctrl key? Hammer it and see if things return to normal.

i don't think it's the ctrl key, as the same problem occurrs with different keyboards, and it's not a wireless keyboard. i'll check the startup menu next.
