I've been having this problem for a while, anyway basically it happens now and then not all of the time. My system fails to boot up, its random really, it can either just stick at the P4 screen. Or it will stick when loading the hardware, or it will keep loading windows, or it will stick when loading windows.

I'll say again though that this is not a consistent problem, it only happens now and then, like 3/10 times or something. It can be a pain though because last time it froze when windows was loading and I had to turn off at the switch and it deleted my sound drivers, its fine now though.

Anyway what could it be? I think it could be some things e.g the harddrive, but the hd seems to be fine so the rest of the computer is fine too so im not sure.

ive found most intermittent faults can be fixed by reseating things. pretty much do everything, the CPU is probably fine where it is though heh.

could help, although its sort of along the lines of "have you tried turning it on and off"

u tested the RAM with memtest 86+

try going to event viewer, found when you right click my computer icon, then go to manage.....see what errors u get there?.....

try reformating your computer, normally works for me

not if its hardware related :)

restarts are generally down to a ) psu is on its way out b) faulty RAM...

are you sure your RAM is in the correct slots?

Its not a restart btw, its just an issue that sometimes happens when I want to boot up the comp, it is not restarting at all what so ever. It happens *sometimes* when I boot up the comp for the first time nothing to do with restarting.

Now from the event log theres too many things to list, I'll go through some of the days its happened on though.

Okay it did it again but I left it this time and on the boot screen it comes up all the hardware etc then it comes up the following message:

"Disc boot failure insert the system disc and press enter"

I have read up a bit, harddrive failure?

But it makes no sense since everythings running fine right now, its just weird.

Oh yeah I solve it by just turning off the computer and back on and keep repeating until it loads up. Its not something that has damaged everything but I want to try prevent it or at least help stop it incase it does do damage.

"Disc boot failure insert the system disc and press enter"

usually signs that your hard drive is about to die.....i dont know how old it is?

its having troubles at the beginning reading from your harddrive....and also whilst its in windows.....as you said:

i hope you have everything backed up? dont know when it may just die...

Its a 250GB Western Digital, around 2 years old.

Yeah but the harddrive runs fine when Windows is loaded up im not getting any sort of problem.

you need a hard drive diagnostics prog to ensure your hdd is 100%

alternatively have you checked all connections are firm and secure???

"Disc boot failure insert the system disc and press enter"

that error suggests to me its something to do with the hdd or *** be RAM aswell....

Anyone know of a program?

I'll re-secure the connections and run memtest.
