problem

hi all,
my old laptop has given up the ghost, it has some things on the hard drive i need.
i put the drive in to anothe old laptop but it says, no op sys found.
is it dead? or can i connnect it with a cable, of some kind, to a newer laptop so i can read it and put the data on a flash?

haha, no bit coin, just pictures of the kids, grand children and me dogs.
i just took one drive out and put the other in, it didnt boot in the other laptop
if i use a hd caddy and try it on my newer laptop do you think that will work?
i think the old drive may be win xp??? all windows are propper copys.
if the caddy will work can some one please post a link.
