Problems after update

Hi all,

I updated to the latest .75 driver on Firday night and also did a small windows update at the same time, as the driver update was nearing completion the system locked up. I had to hard reset and managed to get into windows as normal and game for an hour or so. Turned the PC off after awhile and though no more about it.

Now when I press the power on button I'll see the mobo logo and bios options on screen as normal but just as the windows login screen should appear I get a 1-2mm stripey rainbow across the top portion of the display. 50% of the time it will hang here and I'll once again have to do a hard reset, it seems a well timed jab of the enter key will take me straight to the login screen where I can then login as normal and have no issues all night - no instability whilst gaming and it will bench as normal although I think I've lost a few 100 points in Firestrike.

So far I've;

  • DDU'd all drivers and rolled back a couple of versions - issue is still present no matter what driver I use now

  • Reseated the GPU and checked all the power connections

I thought it was a dodgy driver issue but now I'm not so sure? Anybody got any ideas? Rig is as sig.

Cheers

**edit**

I've just ran firestrike again and I've noticed the CPU Maximum turbo core clock is reported as 798 MHz. I'm sure this used to show my actual 4.4Ghz clockspeed beforehand? http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3297250 I've checked my mobo bios and the correct profile and overclock are present there. Using CPU-Z and prime95 also shows the clockspeed jump up.

The physics score is right for your Chip and clocks, so no problem with it showing 798mhz (does that from time to time).

If the rainbow is at the bios, something isn't right and you might need to do a bios update but if it is happening before windows, it could pay to do a system restore or even a clean install. I find the latter to be very worth while and doesn't take long to put my favourite programs and games back on.

That's what I was thinking, it appears after the bios options but just before the login screen. I'll see if there's an updated bios available then look at freshening Windows up. I wonder how easy it will be to export game saves onto a usb stick?

Thanks mate :-)
