Hi all,

I recently bought a new GFX card from Overclockers a Zotac GeForce RTX 4090 Trinity and then I got a 1000 PSU to run the card, but since I installed the card I have been having a few start-up problems, first off The computer refused to start properly, it was starting then stopping and then restarting, when it finally restarted it wouldn't allow me into the BIOS screen to reset my memory which had went back to 2100 instead of 3600 it was at, then I noticed that the CMOS battery had died so I replaced the battery, but now it starts on the second attempt but still refuses to let me into the BIOS also My lights on the case and the ram and GFX card don't shut down when I turn off the computer I have to hold the on/off button to get the computer to shut down, as you can probably tell from this post I'm not an expert on computers lol
I should add that the computer came pre-built by PC specialist a couple of years ago and had an overclock preset in the BIOS which seems to have disappeared as well. :(

Hi Evi-I the PSU I got is a Corsair RM1000x Modular 80+ Gold My mobo is an Asus ROG Maximus hero wi-fi, and it has a build-in button to clear the CMOS which I have pushed a few times now trying to get it to work, I was thinking this is how I lost my overclock profile.

You replaced all the modular cables with the new PSU, right?

first off The computer refused to start properly, it was starting then stopping and then restarting

Can you describe exactly when the computer would restart? For example: are we talking about prior to POST, or after Windows?

If a computer has boot problems it will sometimes perform a reset automatically.

Do you have the card plugged into the machine directly (not on a riser)?

What happens when the PC is working, does everything (including games) run fine?

What card were you using before?

Thanks for the replies guys, sorry I haven't got back to you sooner but I've been away from my computer for a few days.
@Tetras tbh I think I used the new cables I might have left in the odd one for the disk drives ‍ and yeah the card is plugged directly into the motherboard, Once the PC boots everything runs properly, all games run well. I had an RTX 2080 before this new card.
@ Mike_J_Smith I have onboard Gfx so I plugged an HDMI into that and the computer booted as you would expect, it showed the screen for the BIOS and let me into the BIOS but when I went back to the GFX card it now boots but doesn't show the BIOS screen just goes straight into the start screen and also when I shut down the PC the lights and fans stay on ‍

Did a bios update, and had to use the onboard gfx to get into the bios but it updated ok, so I turned off the computer and booted up via the RTX 4090 and viola it booted normally, i.e. it went to the boot screen to give me the option of hitting F2 or the delete key to get into the bios, so after using the computer for a while and playing a few games I decided to turn the computer off.
I let the computer cool down for a while before I re-booted it again and then the computer hung so I restarted it again it booted ok but didn't give me the bios screen/option, so I give up at this point, I still think it's probably a setting in the bios but I'm going to give up at least for a while

It does sound like a Bios thing. If you had to swap the CMOS battery it would have gone back to a very basic default settings. Same typically when you update the BIOS. Unfortunately it's not the easiest thing to help you with without having the exact same motherboard as you... You can't even do a screenshare... Although I guess facetime?

My usual reccomendation would be to clear CMOS, then chose 'load optimal settings' (which most bios's have) then it's a case of setting the XMP/ DOCP for you memory (basically takes the correct faster memory speed that your memory can run at). In your case, you probably want to enable resiazeable bar, which is a setting that allows modern gfx cards to have all of thier memory directly addressable by the system. Other people can probably help with more specifics?

I do have an Asus x570 Crosshair Extreme with an RTX 3090 in one of my machines which might be similar on the bios front?

Try the above first and see how you get on.

Hi Evil-I I did almost exactly what you said apart for the resizeable bar bit I didn't know what that was LOL but I'll do it now, I changed all my leads to the ones that came with the PSU and used a 12vhpwr adapter cable to connect my 4090, also I unplugged the display port cable and plugged in an HDMI cable and now it boots fine and I can now access the bios screen, I think my Display cable was too old for the GFX card?
One thing that still annoys me is that when I turn off the computer via Windows, the computer shuts down but the fans and the lights (LEDs) stay on and I have to hold my finger on the on/off button to turn the computer off completely it never used to be like this when I turned it off via windows the computer and lights shut down completely, there must be a setting in the bios that enables/disables this and I don't mean the aura setting it only either turns off both or turns of the function lights?

I can now confirm that my old display port cable was to blame for the way my PC was not giving me the chance to see the bios (F2/Delete) screen, I purchased a DisplayPort 2.0 cable and it's now showing me the F2 screen, but one thing still is that when I first start the computer is comes on starts to boot then goes off and then back on again and boots perfect?
But at least it's now working :D
