Hello all.

Its been a while since ive posted here so here goes...

Ive got 2x2GB Cruical Tenth Anniversary RAM (4GB). I started out with 2GB and sourced an extra 2GB from ebay so I purchased them. When they arrived they worked great apart from they wouldnt run in 1T which I think is normal for having 4GB or more RAM? About 6 months ago my pc started having problems cold booting, id get beeps from the mobo and it would literally take about 4 boots to get it to post. I immediately blamed the RAM so I took the modules which I bought from ebay out of the mobo.... pc boots first time... everytime! Do u think these modules ive bought from ebay have died? Bear in mind that if RAM modules r dead they shouldnt work at all no matter how many times I attempt to boot to post? Help appreciated

RAM settings: 4-4-4-12 2T 800MHz 2.2v. Default: 5-3-3-8 1T 533MHz 1.8v.

EDIT: Ive just read in another post that running 4 sticks will require a NB voltage increase to improve stability, should I give that a whirl and see if it stops my booting problems?

Did you try the ram from ebay alone? only asking m8 cos you don't say this.

If not then try them alone.

If they boot up then go into the BIOS and up the voltage slightly on the ram then stick the other 2 back in see if that helps.

In my opinion running 4 sticks causes nothing but problems, I bet if you test them individually they will be fine & so is your Mobo it's just the luck of the draw. Upping the volts may overcome the instability but it would be better to sell all four & buy 2 sticks of 2gb. Cheap as chips nowadays anyway.

Yep, i used to run 4 x 1gb, had to up the NB voltage a few notches to get them to run properly. Eventually sold them and bought a 2 x 2gb kit.

Or try running all 4 at the slightly lower DDR2-667MHz? You might even be able to tighten up the timings a bit to recover some lost performance.

I used to have 2 x 2GB DDR2-1066 modules and later bought another identical 2 to make and 8GB machine. To make it all work I had to drop down a level to DDR2-800MHz. Seems the IMC on my Phenom II couldn't do all 4 DIMMS at full whack. TBH I didn't notice any performance hit in games etc. But the freedom of 8GB was certainly noticeable!
