Hello chaps,

Upon turning my computer on today it consistently crashed at the scroll bar, with a bsod and a 0x0000007b error. This seems to be related to hard drive issues, the only thing that i could think it has been caused by is a trojan as i know that one was present on my system, it couldn't be removed by conventional methods and i was waiting until the weekend to format/reinstall.

What i want to know is, is there any method of booting/repairing without having to format? I just need to backup a few things before i do format.

I've tried to do a repair install of XP, but for some reason it would not detect my windows installation so i had no option to repair.

I have run chkdsk and the drive is reported as fine.

The only thing i could think is to remove the drive and take it to a friends house, but cannot do this until Sunday.

Thanks for any help.
