E6300

XFX 7900GS
2 x 512 meg of xms2 corisar.
SATA HDD (no xp installed yet)

The CPU fan and graphics card fans are going. My monitor keeps flashing up 'no signal'
Also when i put the xp disk into any drive it activates but does not start to boot.
The RAM is in the orange slots.
Ive put the power into the gaphics card.
The keyboard lights are working (caps lock)

Besically i just plug everything in. Anything i could be doing wrong?
The cpu was a bit tight when pulling the securing leaver down, not sure if thats normal.

Do you get any POST beeps?

Make sure the connection between the VGA and the motherboard are secure and the lever is fastened tight. Sometimes if the lever isn't in the correct place you get his error.

Make sure that the video cable is secure.. I know it's simple but it's amazing the amount of people who get his error and it's as simple as the cable not being in. :D

Make sure all your memory is fitted correctly and are in the correct slots.

Do you always get "no signal" i.e. toyu can't get into the BIOS?

Thanks for the reply.

Nope, no beeps.
I checked the graphics card cables, and even took them all out (including the card) and refitted.
Yes, the 'no signal' is always there, i can see anything on the screen at all, just blank.

The memory is fitted correctly as far as i can see. 2 x 512 sticks in the same colourd slots.

Should there be beeps when i turn the system on?

ok this is weird.

Just got my CRT monitor and plugged it into the graphics card via the little widject that converts it... and im getting a picture....

I'm not familier with that mobo but I would goes so, yes. Depends on the BIOS manufacturer.

It sounds like a duff mobo.. are there any lights on the mobo?

If you can, can you get your hands on another system, just to eliminate the monitor, VGA and memory one by one. If they work, then it would seem the mobo has gone. If it was the CPU, i'm sure you'd get a fatal bleep. It would be difficult to seat the CPU incorrectly tbh.

Not really. I can get it going with my CRT monitor but not my TFT. Ill run through the setup and update of windows and see what happens.

The TFT monitor will only work if i use the D-SUB cable (which connects to the graphics card via a D-SUB - DVI dongle)

The TFT monitor has always worked fine, with my old graphics card (6600GT), straight through the DVI cable.

Anyone seen this happen before?
Will i lose visual performace by using the D-SUB cable?

ok, which make and model?

The GC you are using has dual-link DVI connection. I'm wondering if the LCD is using a single DVI connection.

At a guess.

No, you won't loose any performance using a D-SUB
converter

Its got 18 and one longish one. But the monitor socket has more holes than that.

It's a single DVI connector... A dual connector has pins in all 24..

Now what i'm not sure is if the two are compatiable directly. i.e. if the dual DVI on the graphics card is compatible with a single connector. I know for sure that a dual connector woul be compatible with a single but not the other way round.

I could be wrong here though..but it makes sense.

After a bit of playing aorund i found this..

The LCD screen does start to work (using the DVI connector) but NOT until the windows screen comes up!
So very odd. So what this means is that i cant see all the boot up stuff when the computer starts (i.e Bios)! Crazy.

Must have something to do with not working in 16-bit mode  it is strange

Is there anyway to force windows into 16-bit mode? Just to see what it does.
Not sure if i should do a RMA on the card, since the monitor worked find on the 6600GT.
