Problems importing contacts from SIM (Galaxy S2/Android)

I'm trying to import my contacts from my old SIM card to my new Samsung Galaxy S2 phone, but when I try to import from the SIM card I just get the message: "SIM initializing..." and it does nothing.

How do I import my contacts from my old SIM card?

Is there another method?

If that doesn't work, you can try exporting the contacts to a csv file on your old phone and then importing them into your Google account via Gmail.

Then in the future, when you log in using your Google account on any new Android phone, the contacts will be synced

My old phone has now exported my contacts to a .vcf file. What do I need to do now?
