hi i have just bought a new sun beam cooler for my core 2 duo to go inside my new p182 case, the problem is i think im going to have problems fitting this is the mo board i have, its the asus p5b model

What it is, is the silver block in the middle just gets in the way, the sun beam itself is rather large i have a freezer 7 pro installed at the mo thats quite big also but just about fits in, am i screwed or is it ok for the cooler to be right up against this annoying silver block (not sure what it is so sorry lol)

Last thing is you have to apply the thermal paste yourself to the cpu, it states to spred evenly, might sound silly but what is the best way to do this and with what.

Thanks as always

Can you bend the fins on the sunbeam cooler slightly so that it doesn't touch the Northbridge Heatsink (aka, silver block)?

I followed this guide when I applied thermal paste the other day:

http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm

It seemed to work fine on my scythe mini ninja. In the paste I have just used a old credit card to spread the paste over the CPU VERY thinly.

should be a tight fit, if it doesn't you can always rotate the cooler 90 degrees and have it facing the top exhaust fan on your p182.

As for thermal paste get some Arctic Silver 5 or MX-2. I personally just apply a blob in the middle but some claimed to have better results spreading it evenly across the CPU.

ok cool thanks for your help i do have some artic 5 left over so i will slap that on like you say in the middle thats wat i did with my freezer 7 pro, didnt think of moving the heatsing around lol keep forgetting about that top exhaust fan :)

thanks again
