Folks,

I am having problems trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy on a 2004 iBook G4. The machine has no existing OSX on it when you power on you just get the flashing "?" in a folder.

I downloaded the above version of Ubuntu for power PC and I can boot to the yaboot version 1.3.13 but when I ran the default 'live' it would run throught the install and then I would just get a black screen with a cursour on it that does not move and nothing lese happens.

I then rebooted to yaboot and ran this line

Code:
live-nosplash-powerpc

When this happens I get a screen that says

Code:
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of device 0000:10:18.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of device 0000:10:19.0
and then it boots into BusyBox v1.1.3 and the cursour blinking infront of the line (initramfs)

I need help from here I have not really used linux much before and am not sure where to go from here or how to make this install.

Thanks,

Mark L

I managed to get this fully up and running with 7.10 ppc using the text based installer. It was not easy but I got there after about 2 hours.

I even managed to get the sound working and the internal Airport Extreme card. I also managed to configure it to work with a T-mobile UK USB modem which was pleasantly easy.
