problems installing Ubuntu Linux

I'm trying to install this from an ISO burned to a dvd to a spare sata hdd . It gets to about 80% loading when I get a linear screen corruption and lock-up.

I've tried this also disabling crossfire without success. Is this something to do with gfx drivers? I did also use the option of safe mode gfx install with the same lock-up resulting.

be grateful for any ideas.

holy wrong forum batman? did you download the alternate install cd. the desktop (live cd) doesn't work with newer ati cards. i wasted a cd before i realised this....
