Alright then, so I have just brought a P5Q-E for a friend and I am having serious issues trying to install vista 64bit.
Ok so I have set the bios to RAID then created a RAID1 array in the RAID bios, so everything is fine up to now.
The problems occur when I try and install the 64 bit driver as Vista doesn't appear to see my freshly built RAID pack properly. It sees the pack but will not let me continue the installation without installing the ICHR10 Raid driver.
I'm pretty sure in theory I shouldn't even need the driver as Vista should have it already, and I should be able to just install the latest intel matrix storage manager when I finally get the OS on??
So, I have tried creating a floppy off the mainboard disk, I have also tried the latest version of the driver from the intel website. Tried using USB stick to install the drivers and still the problem persists.
Basically after selecting the correct ICHR10 Raid driver it will sit there constantly accessing the hard drives for about 5 minutes or so before finally coming up with an error message saying it couldn't install the driver.
I have tried everything including creating a new pack with 2 new 160Gb disks, new sata cables, connecting the drives into different ports, 1 stick of memory, different Vista disks, different memory, different DVD writer etc etc etc.
I have updated to the latest BIOS and Vista will install and work fine in IDE mode but as my friend wants some sort of redundancy then this is of no use to him, and besides which this should work anyway!
I am now at a loss and am thinking the RAID controller is borked
Just for your information the entire build consists of the following components:
P5Q-E,
2 x WD 400Gb AAKS hard drives,
2 x 2Gb OCZ gold series memory 800Mhz,
Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8Ghz,
Corsair HX 620 PSU,
Nvidia GTX 260,
LG sata DVD writer
