Hi all.

I've just finished my first build which I got through without any problems thankfully.

I have it running on XP home but went ahead and bought the student windows 7 upgrade with the backup disk in order to install it on my new build. This is where my problems start, at the point I thought would be easiest :)

I'm trying to install windows 7 through the disk MS sent me but I can't figure out how to install the bugger. I've tried running the disk with XP running, no luck as I assumed and have tried inserting the disk when booting up the machine again with no luck.

I then tried changing the boot menu so it booted from the cd-rom rather than the hard disk, again no luck.

Am there something glaringly obvious that I'm missing here? I always assumed modern OS' were fool proof but I'm not so sure.

Any help appreciated folks

may be a silly question, but when you put the disk in and booted up your machine, did you 'press any key to boot from cd' ?

[edit] maybe the disk if faulty, unlikely but possible, in XP can you put the disk in, right click it in My Computer and select 'explore' to see the files on the disk?
