Problems installing WOW. Help Please!

I bet they still spend every spare hour they've got on WoW.

You seem to be confusing playing a game you like with an addiction.

I used to play Final Fantasy games in any free time I had. I cranked up hundreds of hours, just on VII. Was I addicted to the game? No.

just making use of it :P

i would if I liked the game till I got board of it of course, or want to do other things like ride a big fast motorbike or work or something or even ogame :P

Exactly. I used to play WoW a lot too. When I quit a few months ago due to boredom I had 5 characters over level 70. It never got in the way of my uni work, or going out, or anything else. I just used to play it when I had nothing better to do, as some people would happily sit in front of the TV until x o' clock in the morning.

Open your eyes. The majority of WoW players are pretty much addicted. Anyone that has played knows this!

Like I said above, I do play Wow (currently levelling a Blood-spec DK) and I don't see the majority of players as addicted. So, as Ascendancy alluded to above, you're talking out of your rectum.

According to xfire the people they tack play on average 5 hours of wow a day. Considering thats 67,338 people a day its going to be a fairly skewed average. a graph of users and amount of time spent per day would be better. i for one know many many people that saw wow as their addiction, its freaking hearing people say to the day how long they've not played WoW for...

and for the general omg wow ness i shall submit this

"World of Warcraft?! More like World of Crystal Meth lololololololololollololol etc"

haha WoW isn't addictive? Suuuuuuure it isn't johnny.

Link your mains armory if you believe you are not addicted. The stats will reveal all on your profile.

I used to play wow, 12hours a day, nearly everyday for my summer holidays. I pretty much did get addicted, but I enjoyed the experience. Now I play now and again just a little PVP.

Nearly all games can be like that, it's just not all people get addicted. It's just people put a lot of time and effort to be the best on it.

Well it's very easy to get carried away while playing WoW. Me of all people know this as I spent a good 2 years on it amongst other games. I'm not sure if it was so much an addiction but more so an obsession... Well I was told I was obsessed with it anyway lol. It is totally possible to play it "casually" and still have a life etc but a lot of people spend way too much time on the game and neglect their social life.

While I was playing it seriously I would spend almost every waking hour on it, not go out... minimal sleep, you can see where I'm going haha.

I used to raid "Hardcore" too. Every night from 6pm until 10pm, and then I'd go out drinking with my mates to clubs etc afterwards. It never got in the way of my social life. I bet a lot of people on here spend more than 4 hours a day sat in front of their PCs, playing around on Facebook etc. That's a lot more addictive than WoW ;)

Like I said, I was never addicted. I stopped playing about 2 months ago due to boredom.

Looks like you quit during TBC and came back again for WotlK only to quit yet again. Looks like your progressed quite fast in wotlk clearing Yogg Saron for a few weeks. You must have been in a semi decent guild, maybe friends brought you back or wotlk interested you.

I probably wouldnt say you were addicted due to the fact you barely played much in TBC (and your gear is somewhat hardcore but casually geared at the same time), you did some raiding at 60 by the looks of it, WoW was much better back in those days ;) oh and AQ40 rocked

I only play 2 or 3 hours a day, you see there's also this thing called 'Real Life'.

I don't even have a Lv.80 char! So come on, tell me how I'm addicted!

You are not addicted because you haven't played it enough to become addicted. Not a single PvP kill, no battlegrounds entered, very few instances entered and 0 recorded deaths from any time you went into an instance. No raids entered. Low profession (Blacksmith although good choice with mining).

Your not addicted because your a "nub" who hasn't experienced the events of what can make WoW as addictive as it can be.

Unless you have raided end game and understand other peoples reasons for the addiction (by means of raiding, raid gear progression/upgrading, end game guild drama, understanding your characters class and how best to enchant and gem it etc) you are not in a position to tell others to get a "real life" when you have no experience of it yourself. Would you tell an alchoholic to get a life if s/he broke down crying because they need a drink? (rhetorical question)

You are entitled to your opinion, however, on this case its rather unfounded based on the character and experience you have with WoW. WoW is a great game but once you are addicted and logging on to grind "dailies" to pay repair bills and afford flasks as a requirement for raid the fun factor becomes less and less and the chore increases each day you repeat the same quest.

Maybe think before telling others to get a life next time.

EDIT: I'm not saying everyone is addicted, but I am saying most of the people telling others to get a life or its just a game have been addicted at some point if they have seen and experienced the very thing that has hooked other players. It is an addictive game, and a great one at that.

I played WoW for ages but as soon as it got boring I stopped playing,

I was just playing the game because I enjoyed doing so, I wasn't addicted

I think you're ever so slightly confused here. Where have I ever said to someone "get a life"? In fact the only time I've mentioned the word "life" is where I said I only play 2 or 3 hours per day due to real life.

Perhaps I got some of the wording mixed up, In that case apoligies.

Addicted to a game, just how pathetic do you have to be to get addicted to a game? I play Wow, and yet have a pretty healthy work and social life outside of the game. You see, there's this button that says "Exit Game" when you press 'Escape', you click that and then you go out into the real World and have fun. It's not difficult!

It just seems that everybody somehow likes to jump on the bandwagon and **** the game off, more often than not though it seems they're only doing it because of their own social inadequacies.

Posts like the above /quote provoked my earlier response.

Sure you play the game, but have you experienced what other players had to become addicted? (which you seem to have not). Your message was derogatory to whoever that message was directed at, and then you add a bit of sarcasm to your post just to add a bit more for good measure.

In some cases you are right over peoples social inadequacies. But it is one of many reasons as is with any addiction. And I would say some people do flame others just because they dont like it which is rather silly but hey ho. In turn I can see why it can provoke such messages like yours and leaves me thinking "here we go again".

I feel like I'm taking this thread into some serious discussion now rather than a gaming sub forum about a game so I'll stop rambling on about it.

We all know it is "just a game" but game addiction is real dude.

Many people like to game as a form of escapism, taking on a character in a fantasy world allows them to immerse themselves in something other than the potential stresses/routines of their normal lives and that can be very relaxing.

However, excess of anything can be bad for you.

I used to play WoW before TBC and very casually with friends, I plan on starting up again for a bit when the next expansion comes along as I'm genuinely interested in exploring the new lands and seeing how the game has progressed.

:)
