Hi,
I'm trying to install my copy of Windows XP Professional on my laptop. It is the full bootable version obviously.

But when I put the CD in the CD-ROM drive and restart the computer it will not boot from the CD-ROM drive? I've set up all the BIOS options to boot from CD but nothing seems to happen?

Now i've tried using partition magic to format the drive but that came up with an error and now all i get is a message saying 'Error loading operating system'? I can boot to an MS-DOS boot disk but not to a Windows disc?

Any help would be much appreciated this is driving my crazy.

Thanks

Hmm, boot up to DOS with CD support, run a program called smartdrv.exe, go to the i386 folder on the CD and run winnt.exe. You can install XP from DOS there.

You will need to download smartdrv or you will find you will grow a very long beard waiting for it to install.
