Problems overclocking 6300

I've been trying some overclocking.
I tried 7 x 300 and that was fine. Played CSS for an hour no problem.

I just tried 7 x 350 and the computer would not boot. The cpu fan just spun! The bios reverted to stock speed (7 x266).

I decided to try 7 x 333. The computer booted fine. But then rebooted 5 minutes later. I had time to get some screen dumps from cpuz and speedfan, though.

Any advice as to why this is happening?









I've over-volted memory by +0.2v. I changed my memory timings to 4 4 4 12. I haven' changed anything else.
 
I read another guide and it said to do the following.

Go into the Advanced BIOS Features section and set the following to Disabled:
- Limit CPUID Max. to 3
- CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
- CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2)
- CPU EIST Function

Is this correct?

There seems to be a problem.

I wanted to change the fsb to 400. When I rebooted the computer in order to get to the bios, the screen went blank, and the cpu fan went to full speed. The computer just sat like that until I pressed the restart button on the case.

Then it reboots at 1.86 Ghz!

I'm on F4. Having trouble upgrading to f5 though.

I had already changed the RAM to +.2, but will change to .3 to see if it makes any difference.

Then start at say 350 and work up.

Also look in easytune and see what ram voltage you see.
Your sticks are rated up to 2.3v which (if the default is 1.8v) would be +0.5 in bios. Not sure what the default is so chech what you have set already in bios against easytune to make sure.

This overclocking lark is not an exact science so find where you are stable and work up from there. Once you understand your bios (not easy on DS3/DS4) then read the overclocking sticky on this forum which will explain a lot better than I can about how to find max on cpu and mem.

RAM voltage = 2

CPU voltage = 1.31

I'm using a Zalman HSF with artic silver paste.
 
I tried +0.3 (2.1v) on my memory.
I set the fsb 400.
I've got my memory set on 4 4 4 12.

Rebooted to xp and all was fine. @ 2.8Ghz

I thought i'd try a restart. Screen went blank. Fans on full. System hangs. I press restart on the case and i'm back to 1.8Ghz.

Computer obviously doesn't like something. Any ideas?
 


I did this overclock (7 x 333), booted into winxp and everything was fine. Then I shutdowndown instead of restarting. Now the overclock appears to be stable.

For some reason, the computer would let me apply overclocks, but didn't like it if I restarted afterwards! Am I making any sense?

I'm happy with this 25% overclock for now. Frame rates in CSS seem noticeably quicker.
