Problems overclocking E6300

I started off with a E6300, DS3 Rev2.0 and 2Gb Geil PC6400 ULL. I couldn't get past 384FSB, so after playing about with it, I thought it had to be the DS3.
I managed to buy a DS3 from gt_junkie in the members market and he tested the DS3 to 470FSB.
Ive just got it set up now and again, I can't get past 384FSB

I have set a divider of 4:5 and now have my ram at 415FSB 5-5-5-18. This is fine and works ok. It just won't do any higher than 384FSB 1:1.

Seeing as my ram will run at 415FSB on a divider, does this mean that my cpu is limiting my overclock?

Just to make sure, I double checked the settings. They are exactly the same as the settings in the sticky.

So... is it the CPU?

I tried all the way upto 1.5v and im using a Noctua NH-U12F. The bios settings should be fine.
A crap CPU and I had 1 week old hard drive fail on me last night as well. I lost everything on it. I am really not happy at the moment

Thanks for the advice. I will see if I can 'borrow' a friends E6300 out of his pc to see if his overclocks well and if it does... im keeping it lol.

Yep. I have been upto around 500FSB in 10Mhz increments.

I have tried running my ram 1:1 past 384FSB but it just won't boot. Thats why I tried a multiplier of 4:5 so that my ram was overclocked but the FSB was under 384.

I have tried upping the volts and the DS3 does allow me to go to the 6x multiplier but neither helped, as you predicted.

Im greatful for the help everyone but im going to sell the CPU and then I might go for the E6420 instead.
