Ok, i built a system for my friend today using a Q6600 G0, Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, 4gig of OCZ PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series memory, and 500W Antec Eathwatts PSU (came with the case)

I dunno if its a bios problem or what, but I cannot, for the life of me, get this setup to overclock any higher than 2.6ghz (290x9) Any higher than that, and it refuses to POST.

I have tried cpu voltages between 1.275v and 1.5v, I have tried losening the memory timings (6-6-6-18 is default, I have tried 5-5-5-15 and 6-7-7-19)
I have tried DDR voltages between +0.1v and +0.4v. Nothing seems to work.
I cannot try anything else yet, as im at home at the moment, but does anyone have any idea whats limiting this overclock?

Cheers.

ive not tried updating the bios. That could be a possible solution. I'll try it next time im at my mates. Temps looked fine. between 30-35 idle and 50-55 load.

I've tried +0.3v on the memory, didnt work.

Please accept my apologies in advance if I'm advising you to do something you've already done, but have you turned off all the Intel power saving features? C1E, TM1 & TM2 etc.?

as far as I could see yes. I could only find C1E and another option which was 2 under it. Not sure about the 3rd one though.

right, im going to be round at my mates today to try a newer bios, and see if that makes any difference. If anyone else has any input as to what I could try, it would be greatly appreciated.

Disable 'Legacy USB Support', and anything else that you don't need (like the serial port options).

tried updating the bios to the latest version, with no luck. result is exactly the same. Perhaps the OCZ memory just isnt good enough for overclocking.

im going to try with just 1 stick of memory instead of the 2 and see what happens.

yup. tried that too.

Also, I've just tried this OCZ memory in my system (signature) and it works perfectly fine. So the problem must lie with the motherboard itself. Are there any problems with the P35-DS3L and the Q6600 processor? Has anyone had this motherboard and CPU in the past and experienced similar problems?

No luck with my memory either. There must be a problem with the motherboard and the CPU. If anyone reading this thread is thinking of getting a Q6600 and the P35-DS3L motherboard, don't. They don't overclock well at all.
