I always thought Media Player Classic plays them

I've got a region-free DVD drive and run DVD Region Killer, yet when i try to play DVD's in WMP; it tells me to lower my screen resolution, which does nothing. If i follow the help through it says essentially i need a DVD decoder. If i try to play a DVD in MPC it simply hangs?

How can i play DVD's?

To decode mpeg2 in WMP you need a third party DVD Program like WinDVD or PowerDVD.

However VLC is FREE and is a fantastic DVD/mpeg4 player :-)

By the sounds of it MPC should be playing my DVD's. It just doesnt though

Does anyone use MPC and can/cant play DVD's?

Well i've tried VLC and it seems horrendously complicated. I'm thoroughly confused with why DVD's arent working with MPC. I've tried installing/uninstalling/reinstalling K-Lite codec pack, ffdshow, Haali Media Splitter, Matroska Pack, AC3Filter (lol!!) and MPC still crashes when i load up a DVD. All other vids work fine! I tried VLC and it worked straight away - great... but god its ugly, and horribly overly complex!

I want to stick with MPC, as [a] i like the interface and its worked excellently up till now. Assuming i delete all codecs etc... what do i need to install to make DVD's work? IE on a fresh install what would you have? Just MPC and ffdshow? How about the Matroska Pack?

And what about setting up different filters in MPC?

on my fresh installs, i have just mpc (there's been some new versions recently, so check that!)

and ffdshow

download the both of them from free-codecs.com, might be crap gfx card drivers

bledd, if you go into Filters > Overrides in MPC do you have anything special setup in there? Or do any overrides appear in there?

Also, in the main Filters options window i have a bunch of things listed (AVI, Ogg , Directshow etc..) is this normal? What do you have selected/deselected?
