Problems ripping CDs!

Hey,

Over the last couple of weeks I've been tranfering my CD collection into i-Tunes (and backing up the files onto a desktop HD later).

However, for a long time they were ripping fine. The usual where the x12 speed (for example) increases as it rips.

However, for the last few discs I've noticed it seems to be struggling.
For example where it would go x20.1, x21.2, x22.3 now it lags a bit more like x20.1, x21.2, x20.0, x21.3, x21.0.

Also by the last coupe of songs it sounds like the disc stops spinning and the speed drops from x30 odd down to x13 or something!!

The result is many of the songs from the more recent discs are all jumpy and almost unable to listen to!!

Can anyone help at all? Any suggestions?

I ensure that when I'm ripping the PC is not doing any other activities. I don't even open any folders or internet or anything.

It plays music direct from disc fine and it plays games fine with the disc in...

Please help OCUK! :S

(edit: It's an LG DVD+/-RW drive i got about 14 months ago oem from ocuk. At least I think it was oem, I can't remember lol)

hmm, dirvers and iTunes all up to date. I gave it a blast with compressed air too to no avail.

I'll try another program (didn't think of that - duh! lol).

I only have Win Media Player, is that alright for ripping? Is there a better free program?

Cheers :)

Oh dear, I'm having the same problem. Think it might be hardware related. I'll go buy a CD Lens cleaner and see if that helps. If not I don't know what I'll try. Don't really wanna buy a new one, they usualy outlast the PC!

Thanks for the help though peeps :)

Cheers!
Howie.
