I have a problem with BF2 - I just installed it, so haven't actually played the game yet, but when I get into the login menus it's fine for a few seconds and then pauses for a few seconds (where I can move the mouse but not click on anything) and this cycle continues.

Any ideas?

My setup is X2 4800+, XTX1900, 2GB RAM, all latest drivers etc. BF2 patched to 1.22 I think.

hi,
yep i had this problem with zonealarm aswell. was enabled in za but kept asking for permission.a coupla clicks with the mouse(i could remember where the pop up box appears)and it started.
hopefully that is the cause of your problem?
regards,
steve.

It's okay I eventually found it - apparently this was an issue on the old version of the BIOS on the Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe - an upgrade to 0311 will resolve it hopefully.

Sometimes i have to switch off my fw then login and then put it back on, other times it's fine. Bf2 is buggy like that.

Yup telling it to use one core, and it wont have a negative effect, but I had a 2fps increase + made the menu useable.

Load up BF2, Ctrl + alt + delete into task manager, right click on process on BF2.exe, bottom of the list is set affinity, just have one of the cores ticked.

At stock that means that BF2.exe thinks you have a 3700 SD not a X2, works with a lot of games that don't like the X2 in bits.

you might want to check the Asus A8R32-MVP thread in the motherboards section. I have this mobo and play BF2, once you update to 0311 bios, those freezing issues in BF2 will go away. You won't really need to turn off a croe then, but may do so if you find it works better for you..............

Yeah I am trying to upgrade to 0311 now, but the Asus Update program keeps telling me it failed, no Asus MB found. I think it might be a conflict with my XFi card reading on the Asus forums.

Download the latest bios file (.bin extension) and dump it on a floppy. Stick the floppy in the drive and reboot. Then when you boot up and hear the beep press ALT+F2 which will load the Award Bios Flashing utility in the bios and it will auto read that Bin file and update the bios for you.

At least thats what I do for my Asus A8N-SLI-SE !

I know - the motherboard manual is wrong! The correct filename doesn't have the dash as you say.

I have another problem now (as is always the way with computers!) - when I doubleclick the BF2 icon, I get the BF2 logo screen and then it just goes back to the desktop (about 2 seconds from click to back to desktop).
