Problems running BF3

I bought Battlefield 3 yesterday but it seems to run like toilet and I can't figure out why. I had a look at my specs and the specs needed to run it and I'm inbetween the minimum and recommended specs.

Minimum requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7 GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card, ATI Radeon 3870 or higher, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher.
Graphics card memory: 512 MB

Now what I'm running is:

Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Athlon II X4 3.0Ghz Quad
Nvdia GTX 550 TI 1Ghz
4Gb RAM
M3N-HT DELUXE Mobo

I read around and the common denominator seems to be CPU as it is a very intensive game, but surely my CPU destroys at least the minimum?

In contrast I can run games like Metro 2033, Gotham City Imposters and Super Monday Night Combat at high/max settings no problems.

This is bugging me because I dropped £45 on it and I don't particularly want to feel like I just wasted that.

Any help would be appreciated!

Find out which component by playing for 20 mins while running afterburner and ctrl alt del performance manager open.

If your GPU sits at 90% usage u know its probably that and vice versa with cpu load.

How much VRAM on that 550ti btw? I remember it running "ok" on the lowest with a PII x4 955 at 3.7 and a HD4850 with 512MB VRAM @ 1280x1024.

The athlon isn't a great gaming CPU and the 550Ti isn't great either to be honest. Definately try overclocking the GPU with MSI afterburner, if you haven't done this already.

BF3 is a fickle mistress. THIS might be an interesting read for you

Are you on a 64 player server, if so that could be it, try something like a 24 player server also some maps like the ones in the new aftermath dlc seem to be quite demanding compared to the vanilla maps.
